SUMMARY

Responsible for managing the entire accounting and finance function for corporate and five divisions of the company, with multiple office locations in other states. We seek someone with 10 years or more of accounting, finance, communication, time management, personnel management, leadership, budget preparation, strategic planning, internal controls, tax, audit functions, and related software experience. Candidates must have worked with a construction firm for at least 5 years.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the organization's fiscal function and performance. Supports the business to improve profitability and growth.
  • Participate in the development of the corporation's plans and programs as a strategic partner.
  • Create and establish annual budgets and operating plans that align with the company's goals for growth and expansion. Lead the reporting to all stakeholders, ensuring accuracy.
  • Utilize forward-looking models and activity-based analyses to provide financial insight into the organization's plans and operating budgets
  • Propose action plans to ensure that annual financial objectives are attained, serving as a key advisor to support operational leaders
  • Provide timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports and financial trends in order to assist the President/CEO, the Advisory Board and other senior executives in performing their responsibilities.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures of the organization that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the corporation. Lead the adoption of technology (Vista/Trimble) to automate and streamline processes.
  • Establish credibility throughout the organization and with the Advisory Board as an effective developer of solutions to business challenges.
  • Provide technical financial advice and knowledge to others within the financial discipline.
  • Continual improvement of the budgeting process through education of department managers on financial issues impacting department budgets.
  • Provide strategic financial input and leadership on decision making issues affecting the organization; i.e., evaluation of potential alliances, acquisitions and/or mergers and pension funds and investments.
  • Represent company to banks, financial partners, institutions, investors, public auditors, and officials.
  • Optimize the handling of bank and deposit relationships and initiate appropriate strategies to enhance cash position.
  • Develop a cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism that includes minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs.
  • Be an advisor from the financial perspective on any contracts into which the corporation may enter. Ensure that all parties to the contracts have the financial resources to support payment once the project begins.
  • Review all month-end closing activities including general ledger accounts, balance sheet accounts and overhead cost allocation.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors. Manage preparation and support of all external audits.
  • Evaluate the finance division structure and team. Actively educate and direct staff to ensure an ongoing level of skill, mentoring and/or promoting individuals as indicated, to ensure a critical mass of talent.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years' experience in a leadership role in accounting in the construction industry.
  • 3+ years' experience in public accounting preferred.
  • CPA certification, preferred and working knowledge of GAAP.
  • Strong general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, income tax and bank working knowledge.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting required, Advanced degree or certification preferred.
