Safety Coordinator

A St. Louis based Safety Professional that will report to the Safety Director but will work closely with Divisional Management including Division Manager, Project Managers, Superintendents, and other company leaders to manage the company-wide safety program. This position will be the primary safety contact for multiple steel erection divisions within Ben Hur and offers the opportunity to gain experience working with owners, general contractors, and other safety professionals to continue the strong tradition of safety excellence at Ben Hur.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Implements and enforces safety policies / procedures in compliance with Local, State, Federal, project specific, and Company specific rules and regulations
• Advises the Safety Director, Safety Manager and Management on safety compliance concerns and preventative actions
• Assists with the planning and execution of the Education & Training programs, which includes, but not limited to, safety committee meetings, training classes, or toolbox talks
• Involved in the pre-planning and creation of project specific safety plans
• Conduct regular jobsite safety inspections. Notify and follow through with responsible parties when corrective actions are required
• Performs / Assists supervisory personnel in investigating any incident or near miss
• Reports potential insurance claims to Safety Director / Safety Manager
• Assists with maintenance of Drug-Free Workplace Policy
• Helps to establish corporate and divisional safety program goals and objectives

Qualifications

• Basic understanding of State worker compensation laws and reporting requirements
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, or customers.
• Ability to build trust and confidence with the Project Managers and Superintendents to influence change and direction while providing comprehensive risk assessments and safety data analysis
• Capable of always maintaining confidentiality and handle sensitive situations with respect and professionalism
• Must have current driver's license and follow Ben Hur fleet safety policy
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities at the same time, while meeting deadlines
• Ability to coach and counsel in a situation when an employee(s) is observed in an unsafe act or situation

Work Availability

• Ability to travel overnight for division or project needs

• Ability to sit, stand, walk (flat ground, uneven ground, up-stairs, or ramps) Stand for long periods of time, climb ladders
