Ben Hur Construction Company has been in business for over 100 years. Founded in 1909 as a local steel erection contractor, the company has grown into the strongest erector, fabricator, and general contractor performing complex work across the Country.

We are hiring summer interns to work under the direction of our Divisional Vice Presidents in our St. Louis, Kansas City, Nashville, Indianapolis, and Cincinatti. Our internships are designed to provide students real world experience while working on corporate assignments.

Duties/Responsibilities: Our intern program will allow students to step foot in and experience firsthand experience with some or all of the below job responsibilities:

  • Be familiar with all elements of the plans and specifications that affect operations.
  • Assist in the collection of costs, their proper allocation, and their proper operations.
  • Be the liaison with project inspectors.
  • Assist the superintendent in all aspects of the project, especially the paperwork.
  • See that the erection plan is followed properly and that any changes are coordinated with the project manager.
  • Report all material shortages immediately.
  • Know where and what the project's survey control points are. See that the steel work is set to the proper elevation and alignment.
  • Be familiar with bolting and welding procedures and assist the foreman and journeyman in their understanding of them.
  • Report all material shortages immediately.
  • Travel up to 15% of the time within the Ben Hur territory.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • No experience required. Current enrollment in accredited university in Construction Management or Civil Engineering program. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
  • OSHA 10hr. Construction Safety and Health Standards training.
  • CPR/First Aid training.

Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the Intern. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to sit for prolonged periods of time, at a desk, utilizing a computer and reviewing online and paper documents. The employee will also have frequent occasion to be involved in high levels of physical activity in preparing for and working outreach events both in indoor and outdoor settings. The employee will also be required to lift and move up to 30 lbs.

This job primarily operates in a general office setting and jobsites. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and copiers.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a seasonal position. Traditionally our interns will work Monday through Friday, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This is subject to change based on business and education program guidelines.
